WHAT IS MY CIVIC LIFE?

The My Civic Life program, funded by The Rapides Foundation and administered through its Community Development Works program, provides Central Louisiana high school students volunteer service opportunities so they will become engaged in their communities and make volunteerism a lifelong habit. My Civic Life is an evidence-based civic engagement and service leadership program for high school students. The program is comprised of three components:

  • High school-based community service clubs led by designated school faculty using the Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) model.

  • Leadership opportunities for youth within their local YVC clubs.

  • Nonprofit partners who participate in service projects and receive capacity building resources about developing and implementing youth volunteer programs.

  • Youth Volunteerism

    Through high school YVC Clubs, youth directly engage in volunteer services to meet community needs.

    The Rapides Foundation provides grant funding to local school districts to implement the community service club component of the My Civic Life program. Through the Youth Volunteer School District Grant (hyperlink if possible), local school districts will receive all of the resources needed to offer YVC service clubs in their high schools. There are 17 high schools in four school districts participating in grant activities for the academic year 2024-2025.

  • Youth Leadership Opportunities

    YVC students are given leadership roles within their local YVC Clubs.

    To ensure that there is a youth input within the program, students are given leadership roles within their local YVC Clubs. These students oversee project planning and implementation, assist with coordinating club activities, tracking club expenses and promote activities on social media.

  • Youth Volunteer
    Connection

    The Youth Volunteer Connection is an online platform to connect youth with volunteer opportunities in their local communities.

    The Youth Volunteer Connection is a quick and easy resource to connect youth interested in volunteering with local nonprofits that are offering volunteer opportunities. Potential volunteers can create a profile, select their areas of interest, and see what the volunteer needs are at their local nonprofits. The Youth Volunteer Connection is open to any youth between the ages of 13-18 who is looking to get involved!
